Child’s Play Physiotherapy

After beginning their own family, the business owners of Junction Road Physiotherapy – Ian and Wendy Astbury- created Child’s Play Physiotherapy, a private practice specifically catering for the physical needs of the developing child.

Our highly trained paediatric physiotherapists assist in the early detection of health problems and use a wide variety of methods to treat your little one. Our physiotherapists are experienced in the assessment, treatment, and management of infants and children with a variety of congenital, developmental, neuromuscular and skeletal disorders or diseases. Our management of your child’s specific requirements focuses on improving gross and fine motor skills, balance and co-ordination, strength and endurance as well as sensory processing and integration. We work closely with speech pathologists, occupational therapists, orthotists, podiatrists, developmental optometrists and paediatricians to ensure that your child reaches their full physical potential.

Our skilled paediatric physiotherapists work with your child to treat a vast range of childhood conditions including:

  • Conditions of the bone, joints and muscles
    • Torticollis (twisted neck)
    • Plagiocephaly (head flattening)
    • Hypermobility
    • Knee, hip and foot pain
    • Postural Difficulties
    • Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Developmental Disorders
    • Hypotonia (low muscle tone)

Most importantly, a referral from your GP is not necessary.  You can refer your child directly to Child’s Play Physiotherapy.  All assessments and treatments can be claimed from your private health fund (if you have extras cover).  Please note however that Wendy and Belinda are not a ‘preferred provider’ for BUPA unlike our other musculoskeletal physiotherapists. Your child may be eligible for Medicare rebates if the treatment relates to a chronic or complex condition – talk to your GP about providing a referral for physiotherapy using the Enhanced Primary Care Scheme or  Contact us for more information.

The Better Start for Children with Disability initiative provides funding for early intervention services and Child’s Play Physiotherapy is an approved provider under the Better Start program, offered by the Federal Government’s Department of Community Services.  Please review the Better Start website (www. to see if your child is eligible for this funding.

Early intervention is the most effective way to address any concerns regarding your child’s development or physical abilities and to ensure the most positive outcomes. If you are unsure what assistance your child needs, a physiotherapy assessment will assist you in planning future intervention.
